Giuseppe Penone. Dessins

2022, October 19 – 2023, March 6
Centre Pompidou - Musée national d'art moderne, Paris

In 2020, Giuseppe Penone donated to the Musée national d'art moderne in Paris an important corpus of 328 drawings, covering fifty years of activity from 1967. A selection of these drawings, some of which have never been shown before, is now presented to public in an exhibition that develops thematically, illustrating the stages of Penone's artistic career. As testimony to the value of drawing in the process of creation, four works from the Pompidou collection, chosen in relation to the drawings, are also included, as well as two other works by the artist that give back a complete sampling of the favorite materials of his art: wood, stone, clay, bronze and leaves.

Giuseppe Penone à La Tourette

September 6 – December 24, 2022

Couvent de La Tourette, Éveux, France

Until 24 December 2022, the La Tourette convent is hosting a new series of creations by Giuseppe Penone. Invited to stay there by the Dominican friars, the artist meditated on and retraced the building designed by Le Corbusier as if it were a big tree, the crypt its roots, the pillars its trunks, the stone incrustations of the elevations its leaves. Using Le Corbusier's 63 shades of architectural polychromy, Penone created a sequence of frottages of the different parts of the structure, which also resulted in a limited-edition book: Le Bois Sacré du Couvent de la Tourette. The exhibition, curated by Father Marc Chauveau, is an opportunity to see other well-known works by Penone that, in dialogue with the spaces of the convent, are enriched with new and intense meanings.

Idee di pietra. Giuseppe Penone a Caracalla

June 7 – October 30, 2022
Baths of Caracalla, Rome

Giuseppe Penone's sculptures return to dialogue with the architecture of the past in the unique scenario of the Baths of Caracalla, for an event promoted by the Special Superintendence of Rome, directed by Daniela Porro, and curated by Francesco Stocchi: four bronze trees (Identity, Triplex, Ideas of Stone - Elm and Ideas of Stone - Cherry) installed in the pool of the ancient natatio, which, set within the suspended and timeless atmosphere of the monumental ruins, invite to reflect on the emblematic relationship between man and nature, space and time.
The exhibition is produced by Electa, that publishes a new edition of Penone's writings for the occasion.
